Houthi militants in the central Yemeni city of Ibb closed the only station for butane distribution in the city. The measure is an attempt to force provincial authorities to revoke a decision to raise the price of gas.
A Houthi military commander, who introduced himself as Abu Nidal, said that he closed the station because its manager and workers fled and left it unattended. He also explained that the station manager had refused to comply with an order by a Houthi judge to not raise the gas price.
Abu Nidal also said that Houthi militants, who refer to themselves as Ansar Allah, will take over the supervision of gas distribution in the city.

Citizens in the province of Ibb, currently under Houthi control, crowd in front of a shop, desperate to buy wheat.

Video shows hundreds of citizens of the Odein district in central Ibb, queuing in front of a privately owned shop trying to buy sacks of wheat to make bread. Meanwhile Houthi militants are trying to keep the crowd in order by watching over them from the top of a truck.

A man with a bloodied face says he was beaten by Houthi militiamen in a crowd of people trying to buy wheat. The militiamen were guarding a grain shop in the city of Ibb that been mobbed by people desperate to buy wheat in the face of short supplies and soaring prices.

A sack of wheat used to cost 5000 Yemeni Rials ($23), but now, if available, one sack costs around 7500 Rials ($35).

The ongoing conflict is contributing to the shortage of all basic necessities. Yemeni citizens worried about where the next meal will come from, are stockpiling supplies, driving up the prices. Local sources say that the Houthis are not allowing the wheat reserves to be distributed for fear that the trucks will be targeted by coalition air strikes.
