Afghan security forces and emergency responders secure the area around the Afghan Parliament in Kabul where the Taliban carried out a coordinated attack.

Militants detonated a car bomb outside the gates in order to storm the compound and gain access to one of the administrative buildings beside the chamber. A fierce firefight ensued between police and Taliban fighters.

The Taliban say the planned the attack to coincide with the vote to endorse Afghanistan's new defense minister.

Landslides have buried at least 15 people in Indian Kashmir as hundreds fled their homes after heavy rain triggered flooding around the mountainous region. Police and witnesses said landslides had buried at least four houses in Chadoora, the worst hit area of the Himalayan region where hundreds were killed in devastating floods last September.

The production of locally made bricks has for good reasons been a blooming business and still after 10 years the production is a lot higher than before the earthquake. With 70% of the houses destroyed in Bam during the earthquake, millions of bricks have been produced to make new houses.

Bamians were very rich before, mainly due to dates productions. The earthquake didn't destroy the date palms and with an improved irrigation system, the production is now better than it was before the earthquake.

Especially on the outskirts of Bam there are still houses standing like they did just after the earthquake. It is mostly where the owners are dead and the family have inherited it and either don't have the funds to rebuild or just use it for production of dates.

As in ancient times where Bam was on the Silk Road, Bam is again busy with people coming and going. Tourist are still missing but that is due to political reasons. With so many people dead, especially among teachers etc. many new people came to Bam.
