ISIS fighters demolished a 800 year-old Yazidi temple in the village of Babira after they taking control over vast swathes of the Nineveh Valley at the beginning of August, 2014. Residents of the Nineveh Valley, largely consisting of minority groups, started returning to their towns at the end of October, after the Peshmerga drove out the Islamic militants, to find their properties razed to the ground or looted.
Yazidis continue to pray and to light the "wick" of the demolished temple as if hope was never lost.
