Jorge Zukanká, 47, collects ayahuasca vine (Banisteriopsis caapi) for a ritual. Together with tobacco and toé (also known as datura, Brugmansia suaveolens), ayahuasca is used as an hallucinogenic substance to obtain visions and generate a contact with God (Arutam). These plants are also commonly used as a medicine for their purgative and antiparasitic properties.
